El Salvador’s Telemedicine Platform Reaches 10,000 Daily Users Just Two Weeks After Launch

El Salvador’s Telemedicine Platform Reaches 10,000 Daily Users
In a morning interview show, officials from DoctorSV, El Salvador’s telemedicine platform, were interviewed. During the conversation, they mentioned the daily users/consultations and downloads the app has recorded in the nearly two weeks since the platform was launched by President Nayib Bukele during a national broadcast.

El Salvador’s new national telemedicine service, DoctorSV, is showing rapid adoption only two weeks after its official launch. According to recent statements from health authorities, the platform is now handling around 10,000 medical consultations per day, a strong indication of both demand and public interest in digital healthcare services.

DoctorSV was introduced in mid-November as a free, government-run telemedicine platform designed to provide quick, non-urgent medical attention through video consultations.

The system allows patients to speak with licensed physicians, receive electronic prescriptions, access medication through pharmacies, and obtain referrals for laboratory or imaging exams when needed.

Although it is still being deployed in phases—gradually expanding its age eligibility—the app has already surpassed 100,000 completed consultations and hundreds of thousands of downloads.

This accelerated uptake suggests that many Salvadorans are willing to use digital health solutions for primary care needs, especially when the service promises speed, convenience, and accessibility.

Health officials describe DoctorSV as a complementary tool to the country’s physical healthcare network. By diverting non-urgent cases away from hospitals and clinics, the platform aims to reduce congestion and improve response times for in-person services.

Internationally, El Salvador’s rollout of a nationwide telemedicine platform is notable. While telemedicine exists in various Latin American countries, the rapid scale and nationwide rollout of DoctorSV stand out as particularly ambitious in the region.

While questions remain about long-term sustainability, coverage, and access for populations with limited internet connectivity, the early numbers show promising momentum.

DoctorSV’s quick rise to 10,000 daily scheduled consultations illustrates how digital health is becoming an increasingly central part of El Salvador’s push to modernize public services.

As the platform continues expanding to more age groups and potentially new features, it will be an important development to watch within the region’s broader evolution toward tech-enabled healthcare.
