
On August 12, 2025, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele officially inaugurated two major bridges in the eastern region, aiming to boost connectivity, trade, and tourism between the departments of San Miguel and Morazán.
The projects — San Antonio Bridge and Carolina Bridge — represent a significant investment in the country’s road infrastructure and are expected to directly benefit over 10,000 residents in surrounding communities.
San Antonio Bridge
- Length: 157 meters
- Investment: $11.8 million
- Features: Two vehicle lanes, pedestrian sidewalks, scenic viewpoints, and space for extreme sports such as base jumping.
- Capacity: 40 tons (tested for up to 100 tons).
- Purpose: Improves mobility between the municipalities of San Antonio del Mosco and Carolina, reducing travel times and improving access to essential services.

Carolina Bridge
- Length: 179.8 meters (the longest of the two).
- Investment: $12.6 million
- Features: Two vehicle lanes, pedestrian walkways, and modern safety infrastructure.
- Capacity: 40 tons (tested for up to 150 tons).
- Purpose: Strengthens connectivity toward San Luis de la Reina and Torola, enhancing commercial routes and tourism access.

Broadcasted Nationwide in a Nighttime Address
The inauguration of the two bridges was shown on El Salvador’s national television network during a nighttime presidential broadcast, where footage and highlights of the projects were presented to audiences across the country.
Total Investment and Impact
Combined, the projects represent an investment between $24 million and $37.5 million, depending on the scope of complementary works included. Both bridges are built with modern engineering standards to ensure durability and safety, providing new economic opportunities and safer access for residents.
