El Maculis Beach in Conchagua, La Unión, has recently welcomed a groundbreaking luxury residential complex named “Mariposa Beach Club“.
This development, which caters to tourists through temporary rentals via online platforms, is the brainchild of investors MarÃa José SolÃs from El Salvador and her Ecuadorian husband, Javier SolÃs.
Residing in the United States, the couple was drawn to invest in this luxury housing complex that will operate under a temporary rental regime because of the substantial improvements in safety and the expanding tourism industry under President Nayib Bukele’s administration.
“Security in the investment motivated us, because one has to think a lot about placing money in certain places with the fear that the investment might not return, and here we have realized that tourism is growing impressively.“
Javier SolÃs, the Ecuadorian investor behind the project, expressed his enthusiasm.
Mariposa Beach Club offers a modern take on luxury living, featuring six distinct residential structures designed for short-term rentals.
These accommodations can host up to 14 guests, combining affordability with the comfort of premium amenities. The architectural inspiration from Santorini, Greece, sets this project apart as a unique offer in the area.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was overseen by Milena Mayorga (@MilenaMayorga), El Salvador’s ambassador to the United States. A proponent of fostering investment in eastern El Salvador, Ambassador Mayorga highlighted the evolving trends in diaspora investment.

“Generally, the diaspora tends to invest in their communities of origin, but now we are seeing a change, and that change is because they are recognizing a strategic place to do business. The SolÃs family is a living example of reverse migration, as Salvadorans are now returning to invest, vacation, retire, and also create jobs.“

Javier SolÃs shed light on his investment decisions, contrasting the business climates of Ecuador and El Salvador.
“We’ve done it because the country is changing. I would like to invest in my country, but unfortunately, you know the situation in Ecuador. We hope that the new president has the same guts as President Nayib Bukele to tackle gangs and all the crime.“

Constructed over nearly two years with an investment exceeding $3 million, the Mariposa Beach Club symbolizes more than just luxury. It represents hope and opportunity, having created jobs for around 100 local community members during its development phase.
This project is not only a testament to the investor-friendly environment of El Salvador but also a beacon for future investments in the beach area of the department of La Unión in the eastern part of the country.
